[Research] [mycelium] [egg boxes] [paper]
During my internship at Aléa Work I got the opportunity to assist in the production of mycelium bricks for the exhibition Que veux-tu, Brique, at Le Grand Hornu in Belgium.
As part of the research into developing a standardized brick form from mycelium and waste, I produced the brick shown here. An egg carton served as the base material, chosen for its structural strength. I cut and reassembled the carton into the dimensions of a brick, then introduced grey oyster (Pleurotus ostreatus) mycelium. Over time, the mycelium colonized the cardboard, binding the fragments together and transforming them into a single, organic brick.
